BRIEF HISTORY

McLean

1971

Ron McLean (Petersham)

Ron Mclean represented NSW Under 21 in 1939 and is a life member and former vice-president of the SDRU.  He presented the McLean Cup to the MSDRU for the first grade competition of third division in 1971. Since 1995 the McLean Cup has been awarded to the 1st grade premier in Fourth Division.

Grose

1971

Dudley Grose (Colleagues) A premiership winning coach with Colleagues, Dudley Grose served on the MSDRU management committee and had helped sub-district rugby develop in the western suburbs, assisting the formation of clubs such as St Patrick’s Old Boys. The Grose Cup was originally presented for second second grade in third division and now is contested by second grade in fourth division.
Walker

1971

Chris Walker (Briars)

Presented by Chirs Walker, a former MSDRU management committee member and a vice-president of the union. Also initially contested in third division, third grade teams in Division Four now compete for the Walker Cup.

Herlihy Shield

1994

Frank Herlihy (Western Suburbs) Presented to the Division Four Club Champions, initially presented to Second Division Champions in 1962
